Fairs, festivals and celebrations are the name of the Spring nursery school fundraiser game. Rye enjoyed the fair for the nearby school where his friends Hannah and Noah attend. The spin art was a big hit, as was the fabric printing with vegetable stampers, but by far and above his favorite activity was decorating a car made from a zucchini and racing it down a track.Rye altered his design at least 20 times, and even came back to the table twice for more options (drink umbrellas, American flags, beads, stickers, foamies, brads, faux flowers, feathers and more). He got a crooked zucchini, so he didn't place well in the racing (the toothpicks going all the way through the zucchini and dragging on the track may not have helped, either). Rye insisted on carrying it all the way to the car and wouldn't let it out of his sight. Now at home, he has the zucchini car in one hand, and a classic wooden toy car in another hand, and has asked for more stickers decals to embellish the zucchini car further.
There was a small admission fee to get in, then each activity or game cost a number of tickets, and you could buy food and drinks with tickets. There were games of skill for older kids, like basketball shots and ring toss, and there was a Kissing Booth -- for your ticket you got a Hershey's kiss, a kiss rubber-stamped onto your hand, and a chance to guess how many kisses were in an absolutely enormous jar (probably 8-10 bags' worth of Hershey's kisses, maybe more). Another activity was to decorate a small purse on a string out of an OJ carton (using some type of Origami), so kids could be in charge of their own tickets.
There also was a silent auction, which we didn't even get a chance to check out, though from a distance I spied plenty of worthy loot.
Rye had a great day and we saw some Rats and some friends from the neighborhood.
